When I try to install VS 2017 on a machine, the installer gives me the following error despite the fact that I'm already an administrator (yes I've tried 'Run as.
Launch the Console application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. If that doesn’t work, then in the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens. Another way to launch Console (if you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later) is from LaunchPad: click the Utilities icon, then Console in the page that opens.
Select '/var/log/install.log' from the file list. Post the messages from the last installation attempt, starting from the time when you launched the Installer or Software Update. Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. Edit out excessive repeats, if any.
I spoke to Canon and they had me try several options including: 1) verifing & repairing of permissions, 2) delete DPP & reinstall from the orginial installation disk, 3) create a new account on the iMac with Admin privileges. All approaches resulted in the same problem-insuffucient privileges to install. Canon tech support feels the problem lies on the iMac side with something not permitting their installer to recognize the Admin setting since the DPP software has been installed with Lion by Canon on in-house iMac platforms. Is there a way to verify my Admin privileges are set according to specs? My account does show Admin under my name.
I have a Canon SX 1 IS and I just checked the Canon site; my previous version of DPP was 3.11.41. It showed a new update available for my camera - v. 3.12.41x for 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8 (which is what I am running). I just downloaded and installed it without a hitch.
There is a note on their site about a couple of issues using it with Mountain Lion - obviously haven't had a chance to try it. I'm wondering why you are being prompted to download a 3.11.x version - not the latest one. What is your camera model?
I didn't mean to imply that the camera model had any effect on the issue, but rather that Canon is possibly not offering the same version of DPP for all of its models. Knowing the model, anyone can look at the specific download page for it to see which version they're offering. If it's not the latest, try going to the SX1 IS download page and download the version I installed last night. Edit: I just checked the 7D downloads and the same version is offered (3.12.41); here are details on the system requirements for it: 3. Target Applications (required for update) Make sure that at least one of the following applications is installed. Digital Photo Professional - RAW Image Task If any of the above applications is not installed, prepare one of the following installation CD-ROMs.
EOS DIGITAL Solution Disk v1 to v25.4 - DIGITAL CAMERA Solution Disk v2/32/32.1/38/38.1/38.2/39.1/53/54/71/72/73/74/96/97/99/100.1/101.1/122/123/124 /125/126/127 - Digital Photo Professional Disk v1 to v1.6. I've got a similar problem on my Retina MacBook Pro running OS X 10.8.2 - I had used Apple's transfer utility to migrate from an older Mac, and thought this might have been the problem, trying to update the installed Digital Photo Professional 3.11.0. Interestingly, I also have this same version installed on my MacPro.
On the MacPro, the Canon DDP 3.12.52x Updater runs, extracts files, and then launches the 'UniversalInstaller' app which then prompts through the update. On my MacBook Pro, the updater extracts the files, but fails to launch the 'UniversalInstaller'. I repaired the disk (no errors) and also repaired permissions, to no help. In the end, I ended up just transferring the updated DDP app from my MacPro. One thing I wonder - my MacBookPro is protected with FileVault2 whole disk encryption, while my MacPro is not. I have the exact same problem. I'm using a MacBook Pro Retina.

All the original EOS Utilities (DPP etc) for my 7D were sucessfully transferred over from my earlier MacBook. Then I downloaded the updater from Canon (to update from DPP 3.7 to DPP3.12).
When I clicked on the CD icon to start the installation process the icon briefly opened in the Dock and then closed again. No update took place.
After an agonising discussion with Canon tech support (who, of course, ended up saying it was a Mac problem) I eventually gave up and decided to get full copies of the updated files on CDs from EOS Magazine (for a not inconsiderable £18). When I tried to install these new versions on my MacBook Pro the Start icon opened briefly and then closed again.
Same problem. So I have DPP 3.7 on my MacBook Pro Retina, which works under 10.8.2, but am unable to update or even install complete new versions of this software. As I no longer have my original MacBook Pro, I can't update on that MAc and then transfer the files over.

Very frustrating. PS I am not running File Vault.
